New Hope Ministries is a community-based Christian social service agency providing support and organized assistance for at risk or in crisis individuals and families in northern York County and eastern Cumberland County. Services are available to people regardless of age, race, gender or religious affiliation. More than 7,000 local individuals from close to 3,000 families are served by New Hope Ministries each year through their centers, various program locations and mobile services. Impact

Recently, New Hope was able to give a donated car to one of our guests. The family’s only vehicle had recently become inoperable, and repairs were not recommended and too expensive. This left the one and only wage-earner of the household without transportation to get to work, resulting in the loss of her job. It also left the income-less mother trying to get rides to and from medical appointments for her and her family. The joy, the relief, the gratitude that that donated vehicle has given has changed this family’s life. After receiving the car, the mother said, “We’re going to be alright now. Thank you!”

Mechanicsburg Center Highlights

875 households were served representing 1,933 individuals.  The number of families served in 2012, agency wide, showed an increase of 63% over the previous year.

Programs

Crisis Assistance

New Hope works with families who have no other place to turn.  Through New Hope’s Crisis Assistance program, at risk or in crisis individuals and families receive help through our centers and mobile services with basic needs such as:

• Food and Household Items
• Rent/Mortgage Assistance
• Prescription, Medical, Dental and Eye Care Assistance
• Heat and Utility Assistance
• Transportation Assistance

Along with basic needs services, New Hope Ministries also offers:

• Personal Consultations with caseworkers to help clients achieve stability and independence.
• Financial Literacy Classes to teach basic budgeting skills
• Employment Assistance through one-on-one help with job searches, resume building and interview skills
• Screening and Referral Services to partnering providers, community resources and local church programs
• Client Service Contracts providing concrete action steps to encourage personal responsibility, accountability, independence and the steps they need to reach stability
• Holiday Food Baskets and Gifts

Children and Youth Programs

New Hope Ministries’ Children & Youth Program provides a safe place where children and youth from northern York County and eastern Cumberland County can feel a sense of belonging and acceptance while working to develop those qualities needed for a successful life.

Elementary, Middle School and High School After-School Programs

New Hope’s after-school programs provide structure, support and academic help to youth during what is normally an unsupervised time of day.  This program includes recreation and snacks, homework help, instruction in basic life skills and character development.  Our programs provide additional activities, such as weekend retreats, field trips and community service projects to promote a greater awareness of self and the world in general.

Summer Programs

Summer programs for youth offer a full day of activity and include at least one full week of summer day camp at a local campground, field trips to area businesses to encourage career goal formation, swimming, and extended life skill and volunteer experiences.  Summertime programs also provide ongoing educational opportunities, all packed with lots of fun.

Scholarship Fund

Children often dream of a better future.  Our scholarship fund exists to assist qualified individuals obtain post-secondary education and job training which will aid them in securing adequate employment and succeed in their career choice.  An application is available on New Hope’s website.
