Support Local Ministries in Providing Food, Clothing and Shelter by Contributing to the Matthew 25 CollectionPoverty, hunger and homelessness can be as close as your neighborhood: the elderly woman who counts on weekly groceries from a food bank; the new mothers who rely on ministries that help with infant clothing and diapers; the out-of-work family that needs a helping hand to pay rent and utilitiesYou can join the Diocese of Harrisburg in addressing the need for food, clothing and shelter in your local community by contributing to the annual Matthew 25 Collection, set for the weekend of November 23- 24.The collection is the Church at work; monies contributed by parishioners are directed into grants for local ministries whose mission is to support men, women and children in need. These local ministries help bridge the gap for families and individuals, assisting with housing needs, distributing nutritional meals to alleviate food insecurity, and providing warm clothing for those in need. All funds contributed to the collection stay in the Diocese to address local needs; 75 percent of the monies are distributed via grants to support parish-based ministries, and 25 percent of the contributions are returned to the parishes for their use in providing local assistance. Local organizations such as Carlisle Area Family Life Center, Healthy Steps Diaper Bank, Silence of Mary Home, and Morning Star Pregnancy Services are just a few of the 38 organizations that received support.Financial contributions to the Matthew 25 Collection make a direct impact on the lives of people right here in our communities, offering a response to their immediate needs and providing resources for a hopeful future.Father Ken, Bishop Senior and the Matthew 25 committee ask that you consider making a contribution this year as the need is great.
Thank you for your generosity.
Michael Zarcone, SKD parishioner and Matthew 25 board member.
